Endangered Species?

Breathe easy—at least for now. Here are some quintessentially Boulder locations, places that evoke that certain something that feels unique to our town. But might these places be on someone’s chopping block? Let’s hope not: every town needs some flavor, and some of these are spicy:
Joe’s Garage. Just east of downtown on Pearl Street, a cool old ex-auto garage, complete with original signage. Sure it’s a bit run-down. But run-down buildings have character, have history, and you can see it and feel it immediately.
Snarf’s (original location). Delightful sandwiches served up in a tiny, tumbledown shack of a building. Service with an attitude, tastes that linger the rest of the day. Here’s one that, sadly, is already en-route to another location, just across the street. What’s in the cards for the structure? Demolition and development.

Candy’s. The totally hip north Boulder vintage clothing and costume rental store. A close friend almost bought his wedding shirt from Candy’s on a rainy early-90’s spring afternoon.

Tulagi. A cool & historic bar and music venue on the Hill. Vacant for years, we’re not even sure of all the politics involved here, but they abound.

John’s Restaurant. One of Boulder’s treasures. Tiny and somewhat out-of-place-seeming, this little restaurant has a solid reputation for fine fine food.

What other Boulder locations might be endangered? Feel free to add to the list … perhaps with a little concern and awareness, we can keep them alive somehow.
