Formaldehyde’s Hidden Costs

Chances are, we don’t realize how many everyday materials that we come in contact with contain formaldehyde. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission posted an extensive report on formaldehyde and it’s related health risks.
From the perspective of a builder, there are many products coming on the market that are presenting themselves as formaldehyde free. Finding the products for use in your home can be a challenge, although commercial projects have been using formaldehyde free products with more frequency for several years. No matter what side of the fence you are on, formaldehyde is something we should minimize contact with. Getting a good air purification system tied into your heating and cooling system seems to be a very good alternative to homes with existing formaldehyde.
For those of you looking for environmental / formaldehyde free products, a good place to start is VT wood doors. For a live example of these doors, check out the St. Julien Hotel in downtown Boulder on 9th and Walnut. All the guestroom doors are VT doors.
