15th Street Developments

Another in the series of new developments in Boulder County is the recently-begun redevelopment of the corner at 15th and Arapahoe in downtown Boulder. We’ve heard whispers of the future plans for this block over the past year, and admittedly felt nervous as it meant the removal of a great local sandwich joint, the Boulder Creek Market. However, the Market was able to relocate just a few blocks away (1801 13th Street). Here’s a before and after look:

This looks to be the first step in what may be a wider redevelopment on 15th Street. The former Sports Recycler (another entity that was able, thankfully, to relocate… their new location is in north Boulder near the Terrace Maya restaurant) location is now empty and slated for redevelopment as another mixed-use space.

Does anyone have any further information about plans for this block, right on the edge of the Goss/Grove neighborhood? There’s no doubt that these developments will contain residential lofts, apartments, or condos. The retail possibilities, though, are interesting, as are the art-scene possibilities. It’d be cool to see some sort of small neighborhood convenience store, a’la Delilah’s, Lolita’s, and the former Cornucopia… . Alas, it seems like we’re stuck with larger, more grocery-style environments rather than the more urban bodega model, which, I would argue, goes a long way in establishing a sense of community.
