What do you want to see?

This quote, by Howard Brandston, an architectural lighting consultant, is intuitive and straightforward. Yet it’s also provocative in its simplicity, when applied to Brandston’s field of lighting. By posing this simple question, Brandston suggests that lighting should be intentional, well-thought out, and composed within an architectural space, whether interior or exterior. Since 1966, his firm — Brandston Partners, Inc. — has completed some amazing projects worldwide; even a quick look at their projects confirms his philosophy that light affects us all on many levels.
We’ve found a lighting shop in Boulder that does a great job at understanding light: Splashlight Studio at 2232 Pearl Street. Splashlight offers a large selection of modern and unique accent lighting.Although at first “sight” it may appear that they are too contemporary, I have found them to be extremely helpful. John, one of the owners, is a master electrician and can offer great insight into the technical side of lighting.
One area of the lighting industry that seems ready to take off is LED lighting. While LED has been used in many commercial applications, we’re beginning to see it being used in residential projects. Would you like to be an early LED adopter? We’d be interested in any feedback from current users as well as from architects and designers who have begun using LED options in their work.
