Chasing Chaos, an exhibit by local Colorado artists Bruce Campbell and Carlos Michael Finn is being displayed at Canyon Gallery and Corridors in the Boulder Public Library. Both artists use a creative edge to encompass imagery and character in their work.
Exhibit coordinator, Greg Ravenwood, paired these artists for their use of salvaged material, for the sense of imagery they exhibit, and for the humor and character portrayed in their work.
“When Bruce Campbell finds a rusted muffler or a dented steel bucket, he doesn’t see junk. He sees a canvas eager for artistic images to be painted on its discarded and forgotten form,” says David Pérez. Bruce expresses his art using salvaged “industrial material.” Ranging from oil pans, mailboxes, plywood roof decking, pressure tank/fireplace inserts and more; these found objects become Bruce’s canvas. He uses these materials in their raw forms to embody imagery and add character to his work.
For Carlos Finn simple lines and abstract forms build humor, personality, and creativity. Combining “creatures” and “people,” Carlos has invented colorful and playful sophisticated “Creoples.” Joel Sager explains, “Finn’s creoples are more expressive with stringy, linear hair, misplaced eyes of varying colors and shapes, and consistently circular mouth.” Carlos also displays sculptural salvaged material to create artistic unique pieces.
Both Bruce and Carlos will be discussing the creative process and talking about their techniques and what inspires and influences them on Sunday, February 10th at 2pm at the Canyon Gallery.
