Introduction, Man meets Machine……

Do you ever wonder what it takes to design a building? Whether it be a house, office, museum, shed or convention center; exposure to ideas and concepts from the artist, inventor, and visionary can be very intriguing. As an insider and yet an outsider to the building industry, I have found that this creative process is often missed or overlooked by those that get to experience the final and completed project.
Prior to the use of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), people’s creativity was driven by what they could tangibly connect to, meaning that they would hand draw and sketch their ideas. Today, the ability to create without the help of computers is almost a lost art. I relate it to family traditions that are passed down from generation to generation, and that at some point the traditions are lost because they are not continued.
How do we as a culture relate to our ability to be creative as individuals, yet use technology to advance and further define our ideas? I have an idea and suggestion all in one: Design Project Build. You ask, what is this? It is an event that allows architects to sketch design ideas for specific buildings and then passing the creative sketches over to an illustrator capable of expressing their ideas via computer tools ‘ Google SketchUp‘ see their ideas come to life.
Design Project Build will be hosted at Rembrandt Yard in Boulder on April 5, 2008. Some of the brightest and most creative people in Boulder will be sharing their ideas with you. Come find balance in the traditions of the past and see how it will impact the future.
