Object + THOUGHT presents Control

A quarter affords you the opportunity to push a button and manipulate a pixilated blip across a screen.
And what do you get out of it? Is it the win? The loss?
Perhaps it’s to see how you measure up to those who’ve played before you.
How much control do you think you have?
Do you even really want it, and if so, how many coins are you willing to drop?
Inspired by the late Cold War era, this show bookends an interface of design and minimalism. Just as it is generational, “Control” exhibits the infectious crossover that simulates a new visual language, important in power sourcing historical pop.
The early video game offered obtuse angular controls and a minimal interface to achieve maximum gameplay. Although to simplify reference, basic shapes along with oblong sound
accompanied a new experience stored magically in a cacophonic realm. In those big black boxes we fill in simulation, for a voyeur counter reality and for an advance of lifespan, imagination, and free credit for more exploration.
“Control” brings 3 artists to fulfill an experience on all sensory points individually. Player I is Boulder-based photographer Jay Droeger, whose impressive portfolio reaches from desperate to consoling. Through his new clauster-shot arcade series, he captures an intimate angle of American archetypes, now a nostalgic point to hit in reference comfort. Player II is Californian and Plus Gallery artist Michael Whiting, whose current and continuous exploration of pixel-based images prop the gallery like “steel canvases.” Rounding out the senses, Player III is the one-shot and four hour transient performance by New York downtown improviser Craig Colorusso. Colorusso will be performing “MB89,” a life-long continuous project-piece based on an endless game.
