Businesses are going green all across the Nation! Here in Boulder, Ellie’s Natural Home Store is hoping to build their niche in the market by developing a conscious green building design that sells eco-friendly products! “We want to make a ’smart’ building where people are excited to have a unique experience, something different than the average retail environment,” says Hannah Haselton. Ellie’s Natural Home Store has opened up the opportunity for the community to design a space they would like to visit!
BACKGROUND:
Ellie’s Natural Home Store, once the building division of Eco-Products, wants to make living a sustainable life easier for the average consumer. Ellie’s goal is to make natural, sustainable and healthy products more accessible to the every day shopper at competitive prices with conventional products. This store will have multiple departments ranging from a design and paint center, to a department dedicated to organic home and body, bath and beauty necessities.
PROPOSAL:
Ellie’s Natural Home Store is looking to involve the community in the design process for their new store. They have a 9,800sqft concrete envelope that they need to break up to create a functional and creative retail environment. Inside this building they will need the following areas allocated for specific uses:
- 3 offices
- 1 conference room
- 1 kitchen/eating area
- 1 storage space
- 1 paint sales area
- 1 design center sales area
- 1 education/reference/seating area
- 1 register/check out area
Ellie’s goal is to create an EXPERIENCE that illustrates the type of environment which is both inspiring and enjoyable to be within. They are looking to you, the public, for answers and building designs! Ellie’s encourages ‘out of the box’ details, because ultimately they want a space that pushes the envelope and invents an environment people will want to visit! “If you want to see moss on the walls… go for it!” says Hannah.
We will be collecting your ideas over the next few weeks, and hosting a round table discussion on Thursday, May 5th to explore options and possibilities for the new space. All who participate in submitting floor plans and/or attend the round table discussion will be invited to a private grand opening celebration for the store in August! Ellie’s will feature the winning design in a shadow box in the new store.
