Design Project Build - Recap
Apr 7th, 2008 by rlsorbe

Design Project Build, April 5, 2008 - Exploring Boulder’s creativity through architecture and interior design, Boulder Design Festival brought over 20 different architecture firms, designers, and studios together for a night of education, enlightenment and entertainment. The second floor of Rembrandt Yard featured Boulder’s emerging designers with CU TrailerWrap and Eco Moderns Chairs. Spector Associates contributed display boards portraying alternative eco-green building and design concepts from 910 Santa Fe Street in Denver. Boulder’s Design Within Reach studio brought their modern flare to the event with samples of their Bertoia collection, Inviornments exhibited a simple and clean modern chair set-up to contribute to the night’s design theme, and DRW exhibited custom steel work complimented by natural elements. With their mouth-watering cupcakes and apparel, Tee & Cakes represented a taste of local graphic design.
The upstairs third floor was booming with creativity and positive energy throughout the night. The Challenge kicked off at 6 pm and the twelve architects were focused on their designs during the three hour Challenge exploring 1309 Spruce Street (Vast Architecture and Communication Arts), 2905 Pearl Street (Harvey Hine Architects and Rodwin Architecture), and 800 Pearl Street (David Barrett Studio Architects and M.Gerwing Architects). With pen, paper and Google SketchUp; each team exhibited the intellectual, innovative, and fun designs that can come from creative thought, professional experience, and technology! While the architects worked through their designs, Communikey’s DJ Brandon Brown mixed some fresh tracks throughout the night’s festivities.
Each of our participating architect teams from the Challenge chose a non-profit organization to support through the night’s event. Thank you to Habitat for Humanity, Boulder Dushanbe Sister Cities Organization, Boulder Green Building Foundation, Boulder Food Shelf, Community Cycles and SLHS for your information, hard work, and community outreach. (To learn more about each of these organizations, check below for links).
On behalf of Boulder Design Festival 2K09 and Boulderspace, we want to thank all of our contributors, participants and volunteers that helped to make this night possible. The event was a success and could not have happened with out you!
