Environmental Charrette - April 29, 2008: CU Fine Arts Building
Apr 25th, 2008 by rlsorbe
CU Campus is constructing an outdoor public art piece that portrays student commitment to the environment. Interested to hear feedback, they have invited the community to an
Environmental Art Open House and Charrette taking place on Tuesday, April 29th. The Charrette will take place from 5 - 7 pm, and encompass a “structured visioning session” facilitated toward the creation of the art piece this Summer.
Plans thus far are to use remnants from the the recent demolition of CU’s Fine Arts Building. They have salvaged over twenty tons of steel and stone to serve as the primary building materials. Artist Bruce Campbell has been selected for his evocative artistic approach - as he feels the artwork created should transcend race and gender, suggest one human family, and enable all to see themselves in the artwork. “The humble nature of the materials suggest the hope that all can share planet sustainability while continuing to build, create and foster cultural expression,” stated Campbell when asked his thoughts on the project.
This installation may coincide with the construction of the new arts building, or could be in another, more visible location that would have a shorter time frame for installation. Showcasing sketches and ideas for the potential installation, CU and Campbell are looking to the public for your thoughts and direction for the artwork.

This is a great way to get the community involved in change, design and development. I am happy to see CU using material from the old arts building in this project. It helps share the memory of Muriell Sibell Wolle. I am interested to see the outcome of the Charrette this Tuesday.
