{re}novare an art benefit for {walnut place}
May 13th, 2008 by contributor

Local artists from the greater Boulder area have come together with hosts Roots, Orgins, and Boulder Vineyard Communities to raise money through art for the Walnut Place renovations. The silent art auction will encompass traditional 2D art, sculpture, ceramics, handmade jewelery and bags, and other works from a variety of mediums. The above photo was taken by photographer Mandy Rutherford who captured, “All we Need” Boulder Theater, Boulder, CO, which will be one of the many works exhibited in the art auction this Saturday, May 17th.
1940 Walnut Place is a low-income, public housing for a predominantly elderly population. It is a housing complex under the organization, Boulder Housing Partners, that houses 95 elderly Boulder residents. The silent art auction will benefit the Walnut Place community area, where proceeds will go towards the renovation the space. Currently, Walnut Place provides programs that promote wellness and independent living within their community, however the facility is old and in need of updating. Some of the more urgent improvements they hope to create through the auction include painting, new curtains, new furniture, and possibly a new carpet. With increased finances raised, they plan to add as many more additional necessities to the space as possible.
Below are a few of the artists’ work that will be exhibited and auctioned in Saturday’s fundraising event. To learn more about this benefit, check out the official site for {re}novare.

The above digital overlay on canvas, “Reclaimed” was taken by Allison Johnson in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Shauna Lott has created these coffeecovers. They are reusable coffee sleeves to keep your hands from burning, while maintaining reuse efforts to help save the environment.

Our last ’sneak peek’ of the auction items are of bags created by designer Betsy Zenz.
Come check out the other auction items and support Walnut Place and it’s members in addition to our local artists. The auction will be held from 3 pm - 5 pm at 1940 Walnut Place, followed by refreshments and live music. At 6 pm all auction winners will be announced.
This website is a great for Boulder. Have just discovered it but have bookmarked it as a favorite. Thanks.
I did not make it to the event.
