Jun 24th, 2008 by rlsorbe
So you may have seen Lulu Bella, the Italian greyhound (with her friend Yellow Bird), reminding you about Bike to Work Day all month long, and the day is rapidly approaching tomorrow, June 25th! Artist Julia McClurg, creator of this year’s Bike Month visual identifier, has used exuberant colors to bring bike enthusiasts together throughout the month of June. If you haven’t had an opportunity to check out any of this year’s events, download this calendar: Bike Month Events, grab your helmet and get on your bike for tomorrows Bike to Work Event.
To tell you a bit about the inspiration behind the 2008 identifying characters and their creator, Julia has been specializing in pet portraits for over six and a half years. As you can see, she is fascinated with colors and is inspired by all the different personalities she has painted. Whimsical, unique, contemporary and eye catching have all been used to describe her work. Lulu Bella and Yellow bird could be called the “modern-day” Snoopy & Woodstock, with their own original edge and bright animation. Being an avid cyclist, animal rights activist, and creator; Julia was inspired to submit her ideas to the Colorado Department of Transportation, and why not use her charismatic dog to represent her creative outlet? To learn more about Julia’s work, check out her site; Lulu Bella, and see the works and characters who have inspired her and others over the years.

It is neat to see the Bike to Work animation and graphics change each year, supporting both alternative transportation and our local artists.
