CU Biodiesel - Fueling the Future with a Trailer
Aug 25th, 2008 by contributor
CU Biodiesel is preparing for its final push to complete the long awaited ESTER trailer. ESTER is a mobile biodiesel processor and biofuel research facility built in a converted 20×7 trailer. ESTER will meet international fire and safety code standards with a shower/eyewash, primary and secondary containment for hazardous chemicals, and explosion-proof equipment. This mobile education and research facility is going to transform how people look at biofuels and will allow CU Biodiesel to give hands on demonstrations of how to brew your very own biodiesel. Once up to speed ESTER will collect all of the waste vegetable oil on campus – roughly 500 gallons a month – and turn it into biodiesel.
We are taking the first steps towards integrating solar panels into the ESTER platform by working with a team of engineering students as a senior design project – one day the trailer will be able to brew biodiesel under its own power.
The ESTER trailer has a hard working and motivated team at CU Biodiesel who are interested in collaboration in gaining community assistance and input regarding design ideas and feedback for this project. Through Boulderspace, we will take you through the trailer’s conversion to final design. For more information or to get involved please visit CU Biodiesel or email info[at]cubiodiesel[dot]org.
We have alot of customers from the Colorado area. I build biodiesel processors which turn waste vegetable oil into biodiesel. It is really amazing how simple the process is, as well as saving the customer $2-3 per gallon at the pumps. Algae biodiesel looks even more promising. As the other poster said, we just need to keep moving in the right direction.
