Project 10^100
Sep 25th, 2008 by contributor
If you could suggest a unique idea that would help as many people as possible, what would it be?
For those that are visionaries at heart, but don’t know what to do with your idea or how to start - and are willing to give it to Google, they have recently launched Project 10^100 (that’s “ten to the hundredth”) for their 10th birthday. A call for ideas that could help as many people as possible, and a program to bring the best of those ideas to life.
Google has created 7 categories for these ideas and of course, in great Google fashion not wanting to leave anyone out, they have also created a “Everything Else” category:
- Community
- Opportunity
- Energy
- Environment
- Health
- Education
- Shelter
Ideas are due by October 20, 2008: ENTRY FORM
Google has committed $10 million towards implementing the winning ideas and they will coordinate finding the organizations that can actually make the idea a reality. Check out the official google blog post to learn more about this project: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/project-10100.html
I look forward to seeing some of the ideas that people come up with. I am sure there will be some great ones and others that don’t make the cut. They are going to post the top 100 after the initial screening for the people to vote on these ideas.
very cool idea. love the google.
Of course, Google didn’t think of the idea, like all big corporates they stole it and dressed it up as their own. And “ten to the one hundredth” as they insist on pronouncing it is a little over one, not a googol.
please think very carefully before handing over your great idea

Relax folks. Anyone in their right mind that is on the right path to bringing their idea into production isn’t going to submit their idea. Also there are some people with just ideas and either don’t know what to do next or they aren’t GREEDY and just want to see their idea produce. I don’t think that Google is the threat here, it is the companies that are going to steal ideas when they publish the top 100.
Great job Google ! I hope the world benefits from this.
Giving away a brilliant idea is hard - isn’t it? Imagine helping everyone in the world and not getting anything for it. What I am trying to describe here is called BESTOWAL, but the problem is our EGO wont let us. Can we overcome our need for financial reward and recognition ? In truth this is the only way we can really help.
Check out this blog where a group of people are trying to bestow to the world with a joint suggestion.
