Prefab and a Primer?

Thrilled to visit MOMA’s (Museum of Modern Art, NYC) exhibition on prefabricated houses! The gallery installations were thought provoking, beautiful, and so tactile-ey tempting it was hard to resist touching. Thankfully, there was the fully experiential side lot installation of 5 prefab structures ranging from the 76 sf (yes, you read correctly – seventy six square feet!) Micro Compact home that took two hours to install to the lusciously translucent 4-story Cellophane House. It was a day to revel in architectural wonder. But reveling aside, one of the things I began to wonder about was the lack of basic prefab information – a Primer, if you will. Sure, MOMA beautifully illustrated the historical overview, well documented in the exhibition book Home Delivery. But I am wondering about the basic info for prefab today. I mean – do they all have be 8’ wide? So, for all of you out there in blog-land, I have a question: “Answers to what questions will make you smarter about prefab?” I wonder.
