Philadelphia’s Design Celebration 2008
Dec 5th, 2008 by rlsorbe
I was recently introduced to Philadelphia’s Design Week, a cultural event that celebrates Philadelphia’s design community. This event features architecture and interior design, fashion and product design, and textile and graphic design. As I was reading about this week long celebration, one exhibit particularly stands out to me, A Clean Break.
This is an exhibition featured modern prefab architecture in collaboration with high-design, low-waste innovation for the urban environment; and addressed issues of urban infill, 21st century development and sustainability. This outdoor exhibit offered full-scale homes to tour, installations by architects, urban farming, transportation, environmentally friendly furniture, public art and other high-design, low-wast products.
After reading a bit more about this exhibit, I think it would be neat for Boulder to be in contact with, A Clean Break Organization, and create a project of it’s own which addresses our local development challenges. With a great number of talented designers, innovative community members, and “green” businesses in our city, this would be a worthwhile Boulder/Denver collaboration.
