Kitchen of the Year 2008
Jan 4th, 2009 by contributor
Kicking off with a look at a year of Boulder and Denver design, Best of 2008, here is a preview of the Kitchen of the Year selection of Colorado Homes and Lifestyles Magazine, Sept 2008:
Before:

This kitchen is part of a whole house remodel in the Chataqua neighborhood. The moss rock backsplash is the original exterior rock of the rear of the house. This rock is prevalent in the neighborhood as it was excavated from the area when the foundations were dug. The homeowners kept the original architecture intact and added a contemporary addition to create a light drenched kitchen and family room. The cabinetry is a proprietary line of ‘green’ cabinetry by RED PEPPER KITCHEN + BATH, developed by Margie McCulloch six years ago to fill a need for cabinetry with clean lines, new finishes and an environmental conscience. The island cabinetry is a sophisticated dyed Elm burl veneer. The perimeter cabinetry is rift cut Oak veneer dyed black. Dye, unlike stain, allows the wood grain to shine through. Top coat finish is water-based and non offgassing. All are eligible for LEED points. The countertop is Carerra Marble, reminiscent of early 20th century soda fountains. The space that the original kitchen occupied has become the pantry.
